Toilet Bowl Cleaner

My first inclination is to just try it, but the DW insists that I ask. Has anyone ever tried using a toilet bowl cleaner, like Scrubbing Bubbles Cleaning Gel, in their RV toilet? The package says that it is septic safe. I don't see where it could do any harm to try it.

  • I use scrubing bubbles on my plastic toilet without problems. Use it on the shower and tub as well. I've also just used lysol cleaner in warm water. Never seen a product that etched plastic.
  • Don't use Bleach based products....doesn't do too well with pee (ammonia). Made the mistake once, not a big deal at home, but if not dumping right away, I wouldn't use it.

No matter, you don't have a septic tank.

No, but many dump stations are remote and on septic systems.
  • Squirt whatever dish liquid you are using (Palmolive is my favorite because it is concenteerated) into the bowl, fill with water, let soak maybe 1/2 hour. Then, scrub gently with toilet bowl brush. Comes out clean.

  • If you have a plastic bowl NO. Many cleaners will etch it and then you are done in the water so to speak as bacteria/dirt will bury itself in the etching.

My RV toilet is plastic and it still had the manufacturer sticker on it that said to use on Soft Scrub to clean it. Been using the stuff for eons now and it keeps it sparkling clean.

Ahhh, toilet threads are always so interesting!
  • I think you could probably use just about anything, but I wouldn't let it sit as its a plastic bowl and not porcelain and chemicals might react with it. I just use a little brush and comet cleanser.

  • We have a porcelain bowl, so I was using the same thing we did at home. Then I discovered the wand scrubber was making a blue ring on the plastic flapper.

So when DH added Dawn soap to a spray bottle of water to check for leaks, I started using it to spray the bowl and scrub with a standard toilet brush. I leave it in the bathroom and it freshens the bowl between scrubs. When it's empty, I'm going to refill and only use this method.
