Toll Road I-95 Virginia

Has there been any progress(?) on the completion of the toll booths on I-95 in Virginia? Has anyone any information as to when the tolls will start?

We are leaving for Florida in early November but will travel I-81 south if tolls have been implemented.

A word of warning if you travel I-81 South. I live in Martinsburg, WV and there is road construction to widen 81 to three lanes north and south. They are almost finished with it but there have been several accidents between the Maryland state line to just past Martinsburg. The speed limit is 55 mph but most people do not abide by it. Between the speeders and the bumpy road there have been several deaths on this short stretch of 81. Most locals avoid this as much as possible due to the amount of accidents. My best advice with a trailer in tow is to stay in the Right lane going through this area. The left lanes are not paved correctly and will throw you around as well as the 18 wheelers. When it rains, the Left lanes puddle up to unsafe levels. Hopefully, they will get this fixed soon!
  • The I95 Mega Project relates to HOV lane extension. HOV lanes are free and open to normal traffic except for certain times during rush hours. They are also directional. The Hot lanes are on the Beltway and use EZ Pass. No Toll Booths on any of the regular I95 thru lanes in VA that I am aware of and traffic is just as bad as ever.

Shot beat me to it. I shoulda took typing in High School insteada Basket Weaving :)
  • Folks the op is asking about the initiative to put toll booths on I-95 south of Fredericksburg. HOT Lanes and HOV are separate issues.

It turns out the issue is no longer tied up in politics. It is dead. Ain't gonna happen.

    Carry on.
  • Here's what I found.

    I95 Mega Project in VA

The work has not yet been completed so I doubt if the tolls have begun.

I drove through some of that mess in July. My advice is to take I81, much less stress.

    Safe travels,
    Brenda

The only toll road that I know of in NOVA is the Dulles Toll Road/ Greenway from Falls Church to Leesburg. I believe it is route 267.
  • I'm not aware of any toll booths on I95 in VA. Your SO may have gotten a ticket for Hot Lane or HOV lane violation.
  • Wrong. The tolls are on. SO got a camera ticket in the mail yesterday and NOVA is where he is from.
Cost him $11 if paid online.

I-81 is far more scenic & less stressful than 95 anyways.
