Tool: how far can I travel in x hours?

Many RVers have a rule of only driving x number of hours a day (they choose what x is). I was curious how many camping locations were around my home within a half day drive.

I went in search of online tools that would show this and I discovered these two:

How far can I travel? - This tool lets you enter a speed and control more variables (miles vs km, how fast, avoid highways, etc). There are some other similar tools on this site.

Another tool - This one takes longer to run and frequently will timeout without finishing.

I don't think either of these take into account the speed on a road like Google maps does, which would be helpful. But, they are better than a simple radius tool showing how many miles from a location based on how the bird flies.

Are there other tools out there like these?

  • Personally, I don't try or worry about it when we head out on our long distance travels. We have done as little as 200 miles and as many as 600 miles in a day. We do very little preplanning of stops, campgrounds, sites to see or roads. It's just the way we have moved or traveled the last almost 49 years. Never been lost or not had a place to stay for the nite. We don't do parking lots either.
  • Too many variables and people are different.

    Some people don't like driving.
Some people get tired quickly while others do not.
Weather, traffic, road conditions all play a part as well.

I've driven From California (Edwards AFB) to Georgia (Augusta). I did it in 11 hr increments (stopping every 11 hrs). It took about 3 days. The total distance is around 2300 miles. That's about 760 miles a day. But....it was driving a car and not an RV. Plus I was only 22 or 23 yrs old then. Last year, we went to Destin. About a 600 mile trip one way. Stopped about halfway on the way down and spent the night. Drove it all the way back in one day. I was tired when we got home, but not too bad. I was 45 yrs old too, if that makes a difference.
