That's not the exclusive domain of big oil. Nor is it only the companies fault either, we've become a society that is addicted to instant everything. We line up to buy a $1.50 cup of coffee, or a $5.00 sandwich washed down with a $1.50 glass of sweetened flavoured water.
A motel overlooking the interstate is $50 more than the one a few miles away, yet they're often fully booked while the cheaper one isn't.
It's probably also a big part of the reason we travel in a $20k to $100k to $????? RV's instead of sleeping in a $100 tent and cooking over a $30 camp stove.
