a little late getting into this conversation, but was through the area up form Joplin towards Salinas and then Hays west and were nasty cloud and sky arrangements all around. Not a big deal, maintained radio monitoring and kept on going. at two different times, we saw small groups of cars, yep storm chasers, then we new we were too close for comfort. Once into the area of hays, radio warnings were there and of course had to look at the map and see that we too were in Ellis county. My point here is that within 10 or so seconds of the emergency broadcast system giving the warning on the radio, our phones, both hers and mine gave a loud alert that stated you may be in or near a dangerous area, find cover or a safe place. So phones help too, just make sure they are charged up and you monitor them.
