It seems to me before disc brakes it didn't matter about even torque. I did a 7 tire rotation on our 2001 dually in our saame rv resort as we are in now. I found out I did not have the correct socket to use the torque so using the X wrench I did the job and drove to home depot for the purchase. All lugs were 138 and even torque. Maybe that is why years ago it didn't matter as most of us would feel we did tightn them the same.
