tow bar and brackets for full size chevy truck

I finally found a light duty Chevy 2500 that I am going to use as my dinghy and haul my rzr in the bed.

What tow bars are those of you with full size trucks or SUVs using? I am leaning towards the Demco Excalibar II at 10,500 lbs. and it seams to be the least expensive.

Also what braking system are you using? I was hoping to use the Brake Buddy Classic I am currently using on my Jeep Wrangler.

I always enjoy getting things road ready, or in this case toad ready. Went to the scales yesterday and 5,607lbs. with a full tank of gas, heavy but just about the same as my Jeep with all of its accessories.

    It is a 2004 Chevy Silverado crew cab (full four doors), short bed, 6.0 gas motor, and is a 4x4. It is badged with the 2500 but in all reality it is a 1/2 ton pick up with one extra leaf spring and 8 lug hubs. I searched long and hard to find it as most are 2500HD's which are much heavier. One other plus to the GMC/Chevys is that (I think) 2004 and newer don't have a steering wheel lock, one less thing for me to forget.

    This truck is basically the same as the 1500HD but an upgraded 1500 sells for more than a down graded 2500, go figure.

    I am still researching tow bars and for the price and features am leaning to the Demco Excali-Bar II.

    Well Sir,
    I did the entire setup of base plate(s) and, the tow bar and, the wiring on our present toad, a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 Extended Cab. Setting up and installing the base plates was a snap. Remove the original tow hooks, drill a couple of holes, install the new ones with longer bolts etc., DONE!

    I then did the brake system with the "Ready Brake". I do things OUTSIDE THE BOX from most folks. I don't like the cable permanently attached to the brake arm 24/7 so, I improvised and set it up with an "instant" detach and attaching system. Works flawless.

    Then when it came to the lights, I did what I always do, I utilize the stock tail light bulbs for toad lights. That way, when folks are following me while I'm towing the truck, the trucks tail lights act the exact same way when towing it, as they do when it's being driven.

    As for the tow bar, at present I'm using a Blue Ox Aladdin, 7500 lb. unit. So far, the system works great. Good luck.

  • My towed is a 2500HD 4x4 Duramax Crew Cab Long Bed. I use a BlueOx Aventa LX tow bar, BlueOx base plate, and a Roadmaster EvenBrake.

  • I am using a Roadmaster setup with the Brake Buddy original metal box. The system works fine and I do not even know the truck and Rzr or Quad are back there.
