Tow Bar Failure

Are you saying that it sheared the 1/2" pin that connects the tow bar to the vehicle or the bolt that goes through the end of the connecting leg?

@Dadio, thanks for that information. Sounds like you got a lot of good service out of it and the mfr. is going to keep you getting more.

@Gjac, I think you're right. I've heard of the Big Two, BOx and R-M, repairing them at shows, sending parts out, etc, but I think they charge for doing an overhaul.

@used-tow-bar-shoppers, Hmmm, Buy one and have no idea how and how much it was used... Hmmm... Like my used Falcon 2 AT... Hmmm... OK so far...

Update: I have contacted Demco and will send the tow bar in for repair/replacement. They have been very responsive and helpful.

j-d: I was towing a Jeep (4500 lbs), with braking system, towed about 12,000 miles total, about 7 years.

I expect to be back and towing in a few weeks heading to Colorado this summer!

Demco has a Limited Lifetime warranty, I would call them and let them know what happened. Does anyone know if any other company has this kind of warranty? They seemed to have the highest rated and best warranty when I bought mine 12 years ago.

These things are Machines. Imperfect creations of imperfect people, and sometimes they fail. To me, the mark of a quality business isn't only how good they seem when things go well. It has to include how they perform when things go wrong. DEMCO clearly did well. Fortunately it seem other towing products companies including BlueOx and RoadMaster do well also.

Yes, but it was the old Excalibar version. The passenger side arm failed going downhill on a curve between Tok and Gulkana on the Alaska Highway. By the time I pulled over, a local pickup was kicking up dust from his house to my rig where he was making sure I was OK. After limping in to Glennallen, with the wife driving the toad, Demco said they would air freight a replacement to me and have UPS deliver it. Oops, closest UPS was in Palmer. How about we send it to Valdez. They did, no charge for anything and they did not want the old one back assuming no one would cheat on something like this. I now have an Aluminator.

No, and you should contact Demco with photos of what broke. Shearing a pin really says that you had a defective pin or the locking or the locking pin was not inserted correctly. No bent parts, correct?
