Regarding brakes do you use a surge system or something like blue ox patriot?

best is in the eye of the beholder. we use and like the Blue Ox products.

"Best" is pretty subjective, but we've been very pleased with the performance of our ReadyBrute Elite combined tow bar and auxiliary brake system.
