The 3/4-ton doesn't offer any gas mileage savings, is the same physical size and practically the same weight and costs only a very tiny little bit less than the 1-ton, miniscule, considering the overall cost of a truck these days, but the 3/4-ton has significantly lower GVWR, RGAWR and payload capacities than the 1-ton.
Thanks for the information. As I've noted before I will probably need to replace my pickup before I'm ready to replace my trailer. It looks as though a 3/4 ton would be barely enough but a 1 ton SRW would do with a DRW plenty big enough. There seems to be more SRW available and my wife is a bit intimidated by the DRW. Thanks very much to everyone who has offered information and guidance.
Buying the 3/4-ton instead of the 1-ton srw is like buying a 6-shot .357 and only loading 3 bullets in it. Doesn't make any sense. :r
If a dually is what it takes to do the job, your wife will get used to the 4 rear tires. My ex is a tiny little 5' tall 100-lb'r and she drives 18-wheel semis, dump trucks, skip loaders, etc. Shes not afraid of anything.
The dually is only intimidating for the first few days you drive it. After that, you never notice the 2 extra rear tires. :)
