towing 2000 VW Behind MH

I am getting ready to start towing a 2000 VW Beetle Std tranny behind or rig. Which fuse do we need to pull to keep the ignition on while towing.

  • Just towed my 2010 VW Jetta sport wagon TDI with a 6-speed
Man trans from Willow Ak to Crescent City Ca 3200 miles
With a road master falcon 2 tow bar & road master base plate.
I just put it in neutral and turned the key to the first off position
& left key in so the steering was un locked & released the E brake
The car pulled great & I had no problems. The Jetta SW makes a
    great toad :)

On my 2000 passat, removing the key is what locks the steering wheel, so I just turn it off and leave the key in. 35,000 plus miles of towing and no drivetrain issues to report.

  • I sure envy you boys towing VW TDI units. I've had two of the Beetle models. An '03 and an '04. Both never went below 42 mpg and had more power than one could imagine, for a size engine it had. They were quiet, dependable, and fun to drive. I wish I still had either one of them. Maybe someday Volkswagen of America will pull its head out of it's.... and AUTHORIZE some of it's fleet to be flat towed. I sure admire those of you that take it upon yourself to hook one of those up and use it as a toad. The he.. with VOA.

How do you like your Jetta as a toad, I'm about to tow my 2010
    Sport wagon Jetta TDI
