Towing 4 Wheels Down

I just completed a 5000 mile journey from Virginia to California and back towing a 2006 Honda Accord 4 wheels down......no problems whatsoever. I almost bought a CRV because so many skeptical comments concerning "nonapproved" tow vehicles, the Honda Accord being one.

Never had any problems with the tranny or front end. Car was traded in 12 with 240000 kms on the odometer, plus towing miles.

Thanks for your comment......I did talk with Honda reps and others who towed similar "nonapproved" vehicles for flat towing. Honda gave me the "steps" to do prior to towing but made the point that there is no warranty coverage. My Accord has 130,000 miles......I have yet to read anywhere that flat towing the Accord or Odyssey has led to mechanical issues. Works for me.
  • In the case of our 2012 Chevy Sonic, it very specifically addresses this issue "towing behind a motorhome" in the manual so I am very comfortable doing it. If I couldn't find that kind of info then I would never risk it.

  • If Honda does not approve the Accord for recreational towing, you may have shortened the life of the transmission by anywhere from 2500 to 5000 miles. Then again, perhaps nothing happened.
You probably will not know for sure for many more miles and months. That is a chance you take when you tow a vehicle that the manufacturer says should not be towed.
    Good luck.
