Towing a 2006 Honda Accord

I have a 2006 Honda Accord EX 4 cyl automatic transmission.....getting ready to install base plates for towing.....Remco says I can tow this car but of course will not take any responsibility for transmission issues...they say they have many customers who are towing this type vehicle without issue and to just be guided by owners manual and ignore the tow restriction...also do not exceed 65 mph and start engine inermittantly during the travel day...I'm wondering is there anyone out there towing this type vehicle and have or have not experienced any issues...thanks for any info....

We towed a 2005 4 cyl auto accord for many, many miles with no issues. Be sure to follow the prep procedure carefully on the car prior to towing.......

    After hooking up:
Start the Accord and set the emergency brake
Shift into D1 and let idle for a few minutes.
Shift into D2 and let idle for a few minutes.
Shift into D and let idle for a few minutes.
Shift into N, being CAREFUL NOT to go into R and shut the Accord off.
Be sure to leave the key in the ACC position so the steering wheel will not lock.
    Release the emergency brake.
    You are good to go.

Great advise......actually just got my base plates and ready to go.....my only other question is how often should I do this during an 8-10 hour period while traveling ?
  • Same as the others but mine is a 98 Honda Accord.

  • Thanks so much......I really appreciate the info....we're off to PEI in July....tired of renting cars all the time..

Paul and Sandra, I was at Westover AFB 4 years except when I was in Guam ('67-'71) Beautiful Commonwealth!
  • Same as Paul, towed our 04 4cyl, auto tranny (same generation, same driveline) coast to coast. No problems at all from towing.
    Just follow Pauls directions.
