Towing a 2011 Honda Element - suggestions?

anyone have any comments on towing a 2011 Honda Element other than what the owners manual says about emergency towing procedure?

Remco and others basically refer you to the owners manual by say it is towable with some common sense restrictions, e.g., don't go over 65 mph, start the engine and idle it after several hours of towing, etc.

  • I don't think the manual says it. They just say shift from D to N.

A Honda mechanic told me shifting from R to N will damage the trans.

Also supposed to redo the process every 300 miles and change the trans fluid at 30K miles and don't overfill the trans.

You can find this on techinfo.honda.com.
  • that's interesting to never shift from reverse to neutral before towing.

I do not recall seeing that in the owners manual
  • I tow a 2011 Element. I towed an 04 and an 07 CRV.
The Element uses the CRV drive train but for some reason Honda unapproved the Element in 06. I have towed my 11 thousands and thousands of miles.
I follow the CRV procedure which is idling the engine and slowly shifting from P, down each indent then back up into N and let it idle three minutes.
NEVER shift from R to N before towing.
