towing a captiva or an equinox?

What is the better vehicle to tow an equinox or a captiva, what is involved in base plates and hitches with both vehicles and how much are we talking? also what needs to be done with fuses and such?? Thanks so much

  • We tow a '13 Equinox, I installed a Blue-Ox baseplate, brake light wiring harness, break-away switch, and 12 volt receptacle for the BrakeBuddy we've been using since 2004. The cost for everything I had to buy was approx. $550.00 as I recall. I installed a switch to turn off the 5 amp fuse that powers various dash functions while towing, the guide says to remove the fuse while towing, but that's a PITA. If you would decide to go with a Blue-Ox baseplate, their site has a video tutorial on how to do the install. I also use a Blue-Ox Aventa LX towbar.
  • Towing either one is about the same. We like our Captiva. It has a Blue Ox baseplate and Ready Brute Elite towbar. Total cost was about $1500. Did install myself.
I got a good deal on the Captiva. It was used. Comparable Equinox was $2000 more.
