I am new to travel trailer towing and need to learn about towing capacity. I am looking at a travel trailer that has an empty weight of 5,700 and a Gross Weight of 8,700. My 2016 Ram pickup is a 4x4 5...

Theoretically the max towing capacity is applicable to boats and flat trailers for things like cars. They are better balanced and have a much lower tongue weight, and certainly far less drag. So it's conceivable that one could tow up to their max, or at least a lot closer than you can with a travel trailer.
