Towing capacity

Run run fast from anyone telling you you can tow safely with that much weight, on that small of a TV. I made the that mistake once asking if my TV could tow 6400lb and his answer was yes what i should have asked is can i tow it safely.

i've seen a number of Liberty owners on the Hybrid forum BUT they are limiting their trailers to a loaded weight of 4000lbs or less.

but as was said, payload will be more of a limit than the 5000lbs. towing capacity.

the OP needs to look at the Liberty's GCWR(not GVWR) and payload amount and hitch capacity.

AND with such a short wheelbase, the OP MUST get a good WDH with built-in sway control. Equal-i-zer, Reese Dual-Cam, Hensley or Propride would be some of this type.

I would try an Aliner pop up,the small one
The 2005 Jeep v6 isn't a powerhouse
Had a Chalet(Aliner) with Tacoma V6,towed it alover Ariz,Ca and Nevada

I own a Jeep Liberty and can't imagine trying to tow 5000lbs with it, it struggles towing my aluminum trailer with my atv on it which is < 2000lbs

unless you are thinking of a pop up the liberty isn't really a tow vehicle for campers. it is better suited towing a utility flat trailer etc. a camper will have too much sway for that small of a vehicle. a pop up or teardrop camper could work though if you are within your specs.

Who needs bigger disk brakes , a sturdier driveline , and a heavier frame .

You might be surprised. There are people here attempting to tow more with less. Usually we see it in the form of a post that starts out with, "Can my truck tow this?" When you see that, it's usually a sign that the owner has made a bad decision, it's a done deal, and he's looking for someone to tell him that it really isn't that bad. Usually it is, but at that point "What difference does it make"?

This comment is as unscientific as any you've ever seen on here, but I can't imagine towing a 5000# camper with a Jeep Liberty. I pulled our camper home from the dealer with a truck rated at 5000#, and had white knuckles after pulling it the 10 miles home. And that was at no more than 40 mph, so no wind resistance to speak of. It never left the driveway again till I got a bigger truck. Give it a good test tow before you buy it.
Mvander mentioned payload. That will be critical here...study it. Everything in your Liberty, beyond 1 rather small passenger and about a 1/4 tank of gas, is considered part of the payload, as is the tongue weight of the camper. Payload gets maxed out in a hurry!
Again, a simple test tow would have told me of my mistake, even though at the time I knew ZERO about weights.

IMO, a Jeep Liberty probably can tow 5000 lbs if you include the weight of all passengers & cargo in the Liberty, plus the weight of the hitch.

You can pull 5000lbs. However a tt of 5000lbs should have a tounge wt 500-750lbs which will be aubtracted from your available payload. Another thought is if your thinking tt a 5000lb tt pulls with far more wind resistance than a 5000lb boat or load of gravel or car hauler ect. especially at hwy speeds.
