I guess I missed the part where OP asked everybody for opinions on whether his truck was overloaded. Luckily the weight police need no invitation.
OP, I would just be sure to check the laws in whatever states you are planning on traveling, both for overall length and the legality of double towing. As somebody mentioned it isn't allowed in Oregon (though it's not uncommon to see it). Idaho does allow it. I don't know about Utah but I'd be surprised if it was prohibited there.
