Thanks for all the replies. Much appreciated. To address the question above, I was not necessarily looking for feedback just from other Tundra owners, but probably more focused on others with gas engines. There is no question that a diesel is the way to go for towing mpg. I will get one for my next truck, but for now I am going to make the most of what I have. Also may consider a Ford with the Ecoboost engine. Have heard mixed reviews on them though
I just was kind of baffled by my mpg. Agree that the Tundra gets poor mpg in general, but the lower gearing and high HP engine would theoretically help it to do a bit better towing. I was expecting mpg in the 9-10 range. Lately it's been in the 6-8 range. That is depressingly bad, especially when I read about all the people claiming much better mpg out of their gasser, or specifically their Tundra.
Just wanted to see if my mpg was an outlier. Seems like it may be slightly lower than it "should" be theoretically but maybe not as far out of the ball park as I would have thought.
I took the K&N style filter out and replaced with the factory paper filter. I will see what difference this makes. I think it will help a little.
I will try it without the CC on too. I guess I assumed that would help mpg, but maybe not.
The low mpg I get is expensive, but only really a problem when you consider the small gas tank (26 gallons). I can't get too far on a tank. That can be annoying especially when in rural spots where gas stations are few and far between
thanks
