Have a 2012 Jayco Greyhawk motor home and pull 2008 Jeep Liberty all wheels down. Jeep has curb weight of 4269lbs. Greyhawk has 5000lb hitch. Don't even know the jeep is back there. My question is thinking about upgrading to a Jeep Grand Cherokee, 6cl is 4545lbs, 8cyl is 5150lbs. Would really like to go with 8cyl. PRACTICALLY am I ok at 5150lbs curb wt on 8cyl?
In all probability, the hitch itself won't be an issue if it passes a structural inspection by yourself or someone else. Will you be exceeding the GCWR, though? If so, your transmission might suffer as a result and we do have to be careful of ours if encountering long 6% grades. Best to limit speed in these instances to 25mph in low gear with the 4 way blinkers on, as this will up the rating to a 25% overload.
