Towing with a 6 Cyl B+ Spinter

Is anyone towing a small toad with a B+ 6cyl Sprinter?

If so can you tell me how heavy your toad is and the performance and mileage your getting

Its hard to believe that 188 hp and 325lbs tq can move a 24ft b+ and tow a small car , I'd like to hear from someone with experience

thanks
  • 2007 leisure travel van 5cyc. 25ft long pulls a box trailer with golf cart and a ton of dog equipt, no problem and avg mpg is 17teen, its not the horses under the hood its how things are geared. you can pull a freight train with a washing machine motor IF you got the gears for the job.

Our old 1992 f250 had the 7.3 and only had 180hp. In it's day it was a towing machine.

It won't be fast off the line but assuming the transmission has the gears to get the torque to the wheels, should be fine.
  • As far as towing is concerned look at the TORQUE. If you want to run a fast quarter mile or 0 to 60 look at horsepower. The torque takes you over the hill!!
The formula for horsepower is torque in foot pounds X RPM divided by 1735. Thusley all you have to do is rev the engine up to get more HP.
That is why your diesel has a low horsepower rating.
  • Have about 15,000 miles towing a Honda Fit, in the 2,500 lb. ballpark. Overall mileage is between 15 and 16 mpg, never driving over 60. Performance-wise, plenty of pep in 1st and 2nd, pretty gutless in the higher gears. On steep grades we max out at 45 mph with the pedal on the floor. The more interesting exercise is keeping the speed down on the steep downgrades. Engine braking is poor, and I run in 3rd gear on the steep downhills, sometimes slow in 2nd on the extreme ones. Have been over the rockies a few times, no real problem other than slow going up and slow going down. I have a trans temp gauge and the highest I've seen is 210. Towing with the 6 cyl Spinter is fairly common.
