Trailer cover and protrusions

I have ordered a CalMark covers which is very pricey and do not want to screw it up of course. On newer trailers there are many areas that protrude and need to be covered with something prior to the cover installation. The one area of biggest concern is the hard rubber downspouts that protrude off the gutters. They stick out about 3 inches and I sure dont want to damage them or wear out the cover in those areas. I have thought about pipe insulation, tennis balls, small towels but I dont want to impose the weight of the cover directly on to the downspouts. Surely someone on this site has had the exact concern and found a good solution. Thx

  • I am using rubber tips ( 7/8 inch Ace number 51246) over the ends of the gutter drain. Ace sells them in packages of 4. They are the rubber tips you see on the bottom of canes and crutches. Its protects the cover from tearing during installation and Elimates the sharp corners from contacting the cover after installation.

  • Go to your local Lowes, Home Depot or equivalent store and purchase 1/2 inch pipe insulation tubes. About $2.00. Cut pieces slightly longer than the protrusion and shove over the protrusion. Use black electricians tape to wrap around the insulation tightly. This will keep them in place when putting the cover on. In the spring, just pull them off and save for the next year.
  • My solution is to buy Sunshield tarps which are nylon reinforced thruout.
