I would suggest checking the fuse box under the hood. If my memory is right, newer Chevy's have the trailer lights wired separately through that, even thought the truck may have a fuse inside the cab for the regular vehicle turn signals.
If nothing found there, then I'd be suspicious of the outlet connector on the back end - many newer vehicles have a snap together factory harness / connector arrangement of which I have seen a few not snapped in right / tightly or a bent pin at assembly that looks secure / correct but is not making a connection.
