So what is considered "excessive"? 65mph rating, so is 5% over OK, how about 10 or 15%? I can watch precise pressure and temperature readings that are updated constantly and the difference between driving 60 which is under the rating vs 70 which is nearly 10% over and the difference is negligible.
I can see having the tire overloaded or under inflated and running them at 85mph having an impact but I still find it hard to believe that a properly loaded and inflated tire will destroy itself barely going over the speed rating.
I think more tire failures are due to poor manufacturing of ultra cheap brands vs the actual use of the tire.
