I installed a bypass valve that let's the pressure side dump in the fresh fill hose. I then use the winterizing hose to suck out of the 5 gal jug. Also have a spray bottle of bleach solution to clean the hose each time. I bought a spare pump as this one is 15 yr old but still doing well.
I was installing 2 ge water filters and a pressure tank so I added the bypass valve. I never hook up to city water. It all goes in the tank and through the filters. During the summer I keep the rig active and cycle everything along with the water heater.
