Travel in windy conditions

How safe is it travel when the wind is blowing steady 15 to 25 mph. Plan to be on I-10 in west Texas going trough El Paso and then north on I-25. Have no experience towing under these conditions.
  • Depends entirely on several things that are unknown at this time. How well your truck/trailer combination handles winds and how well you drive the rig. In many places in the midwest those are about average winds during spring months, about 50% of the time these days so RVing would be impossible if they couldn't handle them safely.

Make sure a travel trailer is hitched with proper GOOD anti sway and WD system and that the tow vehicle is rated for the weight it's towing and in good condition. Pretty much the same thing for a 5th wheel only without the anti sway equipment.

Being SAFE does not always make it COMFORTABLE for towing unfortunately. I would suggest you make the decision at the time you're traveling and if you don't FEEL safe, pull in and wait it out.

    Good luck / Skip
