Stop often and use a short piece of broomstick to thump your tires all around. The ear will detect any differences very readily.
I also carry a laser thermometer with a beam. You can shoot from one side to the other to check brake parts and tires very easily.
Make sure you have gas for your generators too. And water.
I once pulled up and out of Palm Desert where the temp was 117F and drove up the hill to escape the heat below. I put the defroster on full heat to help pull heat from the engine, opened the windows, and up we went.
