Trip from Ga to MN .

2 weeks vacation coming up. DH wants to take the Class C to Aiken MN to visit his brother. WOW .. thats a looong way .. Like almost to Canada, right? This is a new C and only been out once to the campground up the road. Wouldn't is be smarter to fly.. Or have his brother come here? I mean I only have two weeks...

  • Can you folks in GA pronounce the word "SNOW"?

If you plan on staying in a campground you'll be lucky to find one open. If you plan on staying at his brother's place for a few weeks you had better check to local ordinances.
  • I wouldn't buy an RV if I wasn't going to use it. Getting there and back is part of the fun!
  • If you are considering RVing, check for open campgrounds in MN and Iowa during your trip timeframe. The first snow of the season usually falls within a week either side of November 4h.if campgrounds are open, ask if water hookups and shower houses will be available for you.
  • Atlanta to Chattanooga to Nashville to Paducah. After you cross the river it gets really boring all the way to Minnesota and even after you arrive. Might be fun with family but I would probably fly
  • there are direct flights from ATL to Minneapolis a couple of times a day. Minneapolis airport is a nice and easy airport to get around in... it is spread out, but not as hectic at Hartsfield-Jackson. My last trip to WI, I traveled through Minneapolis and was really pleased with the airport there. flight from Minneapolis to ATL was only about 2 1/2 hours so not bad at all.

you need to plan at least 3 days driving each way if going in MH. you will not average over 50 mph when you figure stops for fuel, etc. My DD lived in Wisconsin and the amount of time it would have taken to drive even without TT would have cut the time I wanted to spend visiting. for one person, if you search flights for good price, it is cheaper to fly than drive, when you figure fuel and overnight stops.

And for the naysayers, I much prefer traveling with my TT, but the reality of limited time for visit and restrictions on parking in DD's neighborhood, made flying the best choice at that time.
  • Very doable, but I wouldn't go much over 300 miles a day and just enjoy the trip. Once you get to MN you'll find out it's going to be lows of 40's. and you may miss the fall colors. Not having a tow car will make it hard also to explore.

Lots of Casino'sin the midwest to overnight at. They are easy on/off, safe, and usually have good food.
  • A few months ago, we drove from Charlotte, NC to Bloomington, MN. Stayed 2 months and drove to St Louis.

Hated the route I picked up through Knoxville and Indy, only because the RV Parks either were 30amp or way off the road and hard to find. Wouldn't be a problem with a Cls C.

Loved the return trip down to StL. Less traffic and coming down through Hannibal, MO, we hit better roads.
  • It's only this far ( ) on the map.

Aitkin, MN about 1270 miles. I would do this in 2 days if I had to hurry. Back in the day it was a one day trip, not any more. 600 is about our limit. We only do this if were wanting to get home.

We like to put on a few miles the first day while were fresh. You could do 500 miles the first day, about 10-12 hrs. Then 400 miles the next two days, 8-10 hrs. Just divide and conquer. If you want to stop and see something go for it. We always stop at the state line welcome centers and browse through the brochures.

You can even add a day or two for the return trip if you need an excuse to leave early.
