Trucks Don't "Suck" Us in Anymore

My '13 F350 got reinforced springs a couple of years ago because it sagged so bad when loaded. Now it hardly drops at all when hooked up. I also replaced the stock Ford hitch with a Curt 20K model. So when we bought the Work & Play, I almost didn't even need the Equalizer. But I got it when we bought the camper and the dealer installed it.

They did "OK" installing it but with the truck's modifications, most anybody could have done it on the first try. The 1200 lb. rated bars could almost be pulled up into the L-brackets by a strong hand. I never used the tool to put them into place. Just ran the electric jack up with the trailer mounted, put the bars in place and locked, then let it back down again.

But we recently got a new F350 and it still has the stock suspension. The Equalizer helped as it was but it was definitely not correct.

So last week, I worked on it for about an hour. Had to lift the L-bracket up one hole and installed another washer in the hitch head. That got it perfect. The front of the truck lifts about 1/4" when the camper's hooked up. But now I definitely have to use the tool to put the bars in place.

This weekend, we did our first trip with the set-up and of course, it pulled so well. But one thing I noticed was the pulling in that most semi's create when off my rear corners was eliminated. I even tried several times to pass some and let some pass me. But it was perfect with no issues at all.

Appears not only does it sit nice and flat but the extra tension for the sway control has done its job.

Just thought I'd share since its been talked about somewhat lately.

  • You mean the right equipment helped?
What a concept. Wish so many others would accept that. They all would be safer and more comfortable.
