I posted earlier I have the 4X4 6 cyl Frontier which uses at least as much fuel as my friend's full size Chevy truck. The truck is great to drive, I highly recommend them if you need a smaller pickup and fuel consumption isn't a concern.
This article may point out the weakness of the smaller pickups. People would be more likely to buy them if they burned significantly less fuel than full sized trucks. My neighbor has Ridgeline, loves it, very reliable and he says fun to drive. But he's averaging about 14 MPG in mostly urban driving. He's eeked out 20-21 on long open road trip.
