One of the Gearhead mags. Some years ago (I think it was called GPS but am not sure) ran a test
They got three different top end GPS units
One Garmin
One Magellin
One Tom Tom
They fed them all the same start and end points and let 'em pick a rout In fact they did this for three DIFFERENT routes
Every time the Garmin got them to their destination fastest and the last turn was RIGHT into the parking lot (your destination is on the right)
The other two took longer and ... Your destination is on the left
(Left turns are generally more dangerous).
I use a combination of Microsoft Streets and Trips,, paper maps, and my brain.. I very often override or just flat turn off the GPS/Software and rely on my brain.
