As some sort of excuse. I just mentioned it because $500 is a heck of a lot more money to her and her daughter than it is to us old gomers

And yep if need be we step up to help. It just angers me this other person, pays nothing, and at the end of the day, just keeps on

Totally agree with your point of view. Just would like to understand why you would not pursue this in small claims court. Sure - you need to pay the deductible right now, but I don't see why the court would not judge in your favor.
