I grew up the son of a truckdriver. I love the sound, and smell, But would never put that on someone else. I also would not drive a "quiet" diesel, because that is not my preferance.
I idle at check in, and off as soon as possible in the spot. I hook up, and idle out in the morning. I do have a great power differance between cold and hot. But there is plenty of power to idle out to the street, and ease on down the road. Couple of blocks and we can let it roll.
It is a misunderstanding for some, for many it is just the attitude that I am the only one that counts in this world.
We have had people cause a lot of noise into the late hours next to us on a nightly basis, and let that go also. We are, after all, supposed to be enjoying this trip.
