Like TVs, Sat dishes, cellphones, vacuums and other devices a generator is a convenience. Some need one and some don't.
I purposely bought 2 Honda 2000 generators to provide the flexibility to run both or just one as needed or wanted. I chose Hondas because they are quieter than most of the less expensive brands.
When camping in 80 degree or higher temps, I will run both to power the A/C. But I will only run them during generator hours. If A/c is not needed then I only run one and only if we are charging batteries, watching TV or using an appliance. The single generator is so quiet you can carry on a conversation while standing right next to it.
We are both gourmet cooks and use many different appliances in preparing meals. A generator is needed if we are in a campground without electrical hookups.
I always ask the RV'ers within earshot if the generator(s) is bothering them. I've never had one indicate that they are bothered.
