DIXIECHICK - I have noticed some camp areas that has no hookups will have two or three electric connections near their bath room for folks that has medical needs. One site Cades Cove in the Smoky Mtn Nalt park comes to mind.
We had gone to the Wichita Mtns WildLife Refuge in Medicine Park OKLA on one trip out west and had reserved one of their electric sites. Turns out they were all being used when we got there so had to take one of the tent camping area spots. The next morning I got woke up by the maintenance man opening up a small building about 100 feet away from us. Turn out this was a pump house for the localized bath room facility they had there. I walked over there and asked if I could hook to one of their 120VAC receptacles which I saw what they had. The guy said sure.... He said hang on a minute... He went back to his shop and brought back 75 foot long HD drop cord. The 120VAC was inside his building and he wanted to keep it locked up. He said when you leave just coil up the cord at the door of the building. So we ended up using that while we there for the next five days. I went back to the office and upgraded my site for electric.
Then we got to feeling bad about it since most everyone else was tent camping and here we was in our off road POPUP setup with outside lights on and fans running to keep the mosquitoes off of us sitting around the camp fire..
I finally covered the cord up with leaves haha..
One guy finally came over after a couple of days and said how do you all do this... No way your battery hold up over a couple of days... Then I had to tell my story haha...
I then became the air mattress air up station after that - Word gets around we have power...
True story
This is where this photo I post alot came from. I was running off the batteries and Inverter in this photo however - recharging every day from the generator for three hours generator run each day. We have stayed here at least four times over the years at this Camp Doris location with our off-road POPUP. Spent many time here here tent camping when we lied in Wichita Falls, TX in the 60s.
