Use of Generators to run Air Conditioners when camping

Everybody keeps talking about the rules. We should be able to camp next to each other and use a little common curtesy regarding our neighbors, without any rules. They only started making rules regarding the use of generators because they are annoying. We never needed rules in the past regarding noise at campgrounds. And they were pleasant because people used common curtesy. That seems to be lost in reading this thread.
