You don't loose 10% as you and some people say they do. It's 3 to 5% just as I have said all along. Dyno readings have proved this over and over.
I had to smog my BMW and the machine measured 0 HC's coming out of the pipe as idle. That is ZERO!!! Yes, these new cars ARE that clean!
Let me close by saying I'm no alkie fan. Not at all. But all of the wrong info being put out by a few is very disturbing.
You keep saying 3 to 5%, and people (like the OP) keep posting they're losing 20% (like the OP, or often even more) but I don't see folks lined up saying the losses are minimal.
Your Bimmer is clean, great, I put 12 oz. of the stuff below in a 1995 Ford 460 with a home brew EGR delete and 150k on the clock, got zero without even putting a clean air filter in it. Was it putting zero HC's out? Nope. But the test results said zero.
CRC Gauranteed to Pass BTW, the reason a calorie can't be used in the way you've suggested is that it's temperature dependant. It is the measure of the amount of energy needed to raise a given amount of water by 1 deg. C. and that varies with temperature, whereas a BTU or Joule does not. Cold gasoline contains the same amount of energy as hot gasoline.
