Once we were camped by a river up in Cherokee. It was pouring rain and the river was rising up the bank. We hitched up, watched for about 30 minutes, got out of there! It is easy in Cherokee as you're surrounded by higher ground. Went back in the morning and the whole campground was wiped out. In Florida, the land is flat. Flooding extends much greater distances and it is harder to find higher ground. So, get out as soon as you reasonably think there's potential for trouble. Listening to the weather reports in Florida is not reliable.... The weather does what it wants rather than what they predict. In the 35 years I've lived in South Florida I've experienced one flood and it took about 5 seconds for the water to be 18 inches deep. It spread out further and further but didn't get deeper.
