We stayed at PICHAO(MISSPELELD park in 2012 next to park Didn't see Mountain Lions but did see lots of Coyotes, in broad daylight right before entering the RV Park and alongside the Interstate. A State Trooper hit a family of coyotes on his motorcycle. He lost his life and not far from the park.
Lots of kids and people with pets walked in the park, The parking area is not big and some parked at the store Beer outlet.
The coyotes think nothing of going after small humans/kids.
We saw coyote wen we left after visiting our kids in Red Rock a coyote across the street.
here at home two coyotes came down on my SIL and his two pups on a walk.
They were living in a blow down. He whistled for Dad a Chocolate lab and Mom an Australian Shepard came up an chased them until he called them back.
Can you give me one documented case of a coyote attacking a human?
Well I can ask my SIl to tell his story. Did we call the press, no.
In the early eighties in Middle Tn Franklin State Forest I had a pack circle me at about 20 ft. I shot three of them and they ran off. Did I call the press, no. From Interstate 70 I think, we saw coyotes luring dogs down a canyon or holler. Two in front and some on the top of a ridge. A boy or teenager was following the dogs into the canyon or other description.
We stopped on the shoulder an shouted but there was no way the young man or dogs could hear us. Looked so close but probably a quarter mile away.
On two separate occasions had a mountain lion, them on the old trace right above the old farm road, in a place called Sinking Cove, just above the Alabama line pace me I could see their eyes and hear them very clearly at about 20 to 30 ft away as I was walking out from a deer hunt, after dark. First time I banged my flashlight against the barrel of my rifle breaking the bulb apparently. A jeep came along and gave me a ride. Second time or maybe the first. As the mountain lion got closer, the pack of farm dogs came out and crossed the road right in front of me .It sounded like war with the cat screaming and the dogs on it's tail. Didn't call the press that time ether or the occasion I was calling yes calling deer and a coyote ran practically into my lap before I could pull the hammer back on the Win 94 and turn the gun on him. He spun in an instant and was gone. He was less than 15 ft away when he spun around. I've heard many accounts of various encounters with coyotes, wolves, bears, mountain lions, and feral dogs, snakes and so on. It is part of rural life or a life of hunting and exploration on old traces, Indian Paths in the Cumberlands from Alabama to near Kentucky.
In Arkansas from the family history and Missouri archives a distant cousin after 1850, The young lady about 19 ws riding her horse to a relative a few miles down the path or trail or wagon road. I don't remember. her 5 year old brother was riding behind hanging onto her or the saddle. A mountain lion came out of the woods and lept toward the back of the horse trying to get the child. It did this several times up onto the horses back. Of course she was at full gallop after the first time. The cat continued to try t drag the child off the horse until they were right near the cabin and their shouts brought her Uncle out.
Very very few accounts of real life end up being made official with reports to the media. As everyone has a smart phone everybody seems to live their life for the camera except around here. I despise the things.
