I would love to see a mountain lion. They are just starting to be seen in my part of Tennessee. Several clear images have been captured on trail cams. Right now they are believed to be transient, no breeding population.
My guess is that if one is seen there are 3-4 not seen. They generally avoid being seen.
I agree for that one to be so bold, it's either 1) very hungry 2) become accustomed to humans in some way. That is concerning.
My Neighbor who used to own this property has a cast of a mountain lions paws. It was made by TWRA about ten years ago now. Their Biologist said it was a female between 150-175 lbs. She and a kit were seen on the ridge top about 100 yards south of us? above us.
Our mayors Wife has quite jogging down a road below our home since she and others have reported a Mountain lion crossing it. Two miles up the road a Neighbor reported he came home and his close neighbor told him TWRA had been there looking along the RxR ride of way and adjacent property for a mountain lion.
However talking with Game Warden no such reports???
Neighboring county where Mom was raised, County Historical Society Members report Mountain Lions, and some have been shot over the years and Wolves and Bears. I have had two wolves trailing does with heads and tails down cross right in front of me. Big wolves, larger than German Sheperds. 1970s late or early 1980s. Yet TWRA says there are none in Tn.
In Indiana around the area from Vincennes eat to Washington and so on Uncle opperated apple and peach orchards until the mid seventies.
Large holler in the the area and wolves had a den there. Lots of people knew of them. Also Elk were till in the are, that is a few of them. yet Wildlife officials said they were long gone.
They are now as the rerouting of I69 and dirty industries and motels etc have drastically changed th area. In the seventies the Saudis bought thousands of acres and bulldozed it all level for soybeans and corn so virtually no woods not wildlife remains.
We have had bears on the RxR not two hundred yards away. Son saw one.
There are still "unofficial" pockets where some wild stil lexist but the pockets are getting smaller.
