Walmart / Generator???

We are planning a 2 week road trip this summer and will be stopping in some Walmarts for a quick overnight stay. Being summer our concern is heat and would love to bring our generator to power the AC in our Travel Trailer. Our concern is the noise from the generator...is this good etiquette?

We have a larger generator we use for emergency home service that is probably a little louder than the smaller portable units that may or may not power our AC.

Thoughts?
  • Is this good etiquette?

Nope. If it's louder than the Honda inverter generators, it's for sure you'll disturb anyone near by. How hot does it get at night you need AC anyways?!
  • “And using a contractor gen around others is a lousy thing to do IMHO.”

    X2, ScottG!
  • If it is loud don't do it. There is a good chance you will be around others.
  • I wouldn't do it with that genny. Sometimes the walmart parking can be pretty close together and sometimes you could be far apart. I have done it but I have a Honda 3000 and I wasn't real close to others. Now days you could wake up sweating and find a smashed generator or windshield. Up to you.
  • I stay at WALMART quite a bit on even planned trips. Looking at my home location you could likely guess why. I sometimes travel 10-15 hrs and 500-800 miles in a day. No reason to pull into a CG at 11pm just to be pulling out at 6:30.

I run ours when catching sleep at Walmart, but they are eu2000's so I doubt it compares to your question.

The advice I'd have is don't park next to other rv'ers that aren't already running a loud generator of their own. If after you're running someone parks next to you then that's on them.

I'd be hacked off if someone pulled in late beside me and cranked up something like that. That's all I'm saying. Avoid that and I'd have no issues with you being in the same lot as me.
  • When I "plan" a trip, I reserve places to stop along the way.
And using a contractor gen around others is a lousy thing to do IMHO.
  • Won't even be noticeable for others compared to diesel reefers, car stereos and exhaust modified kids cruising around

AC running is a good way to drown it out and get some sleep.
