water pressure regulator

when connected to city water and using our water pressure regulator we notice that each time you turn the water faucet on that the flow starts slow then increases, is this normal?

Did you type that backwards?(You said Starts slow then increases)

Im used to Starts fast then decreases

Water regulators come in several types

3/4 inch cylinder (About) no fancy grip on female end: JUNK
3/4 inch cylinder (About) w/ fancy grip on female end of wings.. JUNK
The one pictured above: Minimum I would consider, but I think it's a tad small
Sur-Flo (This is the one often factory installed) Minimum I would consdier

Watts, Zurin or other make at least 1/2 inch (Mine are 3/4) with hose adapters
    EXCELLENT

Valterra adjustable: I have not tested but others are happy with it.

Does it happen at different campgrounds or just one?

Got it from this outfit. The guy is a full time RVer. Sells them on the side and he know his stuff when it comes to regulators and water filters.

That guy is great. I wrote him a long email once and got a prompt, in-depth reply. He sells pressure regulators, water filters, many different kinds of filter elements and also quality hose in several lengths. You can get quite an education by visiting his site and reading what he has to say.

I am very surprised at the number of CGs that have high water pressure. I have the one in the picture and set it to 60 pounds.

  • I would say that while not "normal" for a pressure regulator it may not be a problem for your particular brand. As long as the pressure stays below the 50-60lbs recommended for RV water lines I would not worry about it.

What kind of regulator are you using? My Watts whole house keeps a constant pressure and flow rate.

Have you cleaned out the debris screens on your faucets lately? It may not be the regulator but the faucet.
