Wax on...Wax off

Thankfully my wax on, wax off days are done. I did that last year. I worked for hours applying two coats of Mequire's marine wax. The results were marginal so I stripped off the wax and applied Zep high gloss acrylic floor finish. A Zep finish does require a couple of coats but the application could not be easier. Just dampen a rag and lightly apply thin coats.

After applying the Zep wax, I took a long trip and returned as winter arrived. When Spring arrived I gave the RV the first washing since applying Zep. In fact I barely had to rinse the RV. The dirt came right off and the finish was still shining. There were none of the typical black streaks that used to take time to remove. I did have to do some cleanup on the nose of the RV to remove dried on bug streaks. I brought the finish back by spending all of about 5 minutes wiping on a new layer of Zep.

If you are really worried about damage due to UV rays, you can wipe on a coat of Aerospace 303, let it dry thoroughly and then coat with Zep. My RV has is 14 years old and has been stored outside and seen plenty of sun in the desert southwest. I don't see any signs of UV damage. Even the decals look good.

I waxed the Outback 2-3 times a year, still had the dreaded nose fade. The new Crusader I still wax 2-3 times a year but have also covered it hoping for better results. I use a Adco cover.

The Florida sun is really damaging, I don't believe wax alone is enough, cover or house is if you can.

We have a 2003 Class C fiberglass and it was duller than dull from setting outside I guess. Nothing I tried made the slightest difference even an expensive product recommended by the manufacturer. Then I discovered Zep wet look floor polish. Clean thoroughly and just wipe on 5 or 6 easy coats of Zep with a sponge. No wiping off or buffing; just re-coat once a year. It shines really well and is easy to wash. I'm not going on record as recommending this because it is a floor product. All I can say is that I personally have not seen any negative effects on the finish after 2 or 3 years. About $25 at Lowes or on-line.

The absolute best was in the universe is Collinite Fiberglass Boat Cleaner, followed by Collinite Fleetwax.

That's the secret. Nothing else comes close. Will remove all chalkiness and shine like new.

Any automotive wax is good. You may want to do it twice!

or have an RV detail Company do it and sit in the shade and drink a cool one.

Mequiar's Marine are considered to be among the best

I've also used Turtle Wax Ice.. also very good

Good old Simonize is nice as well.

Homework assignment
Take a trip. Fill up at start and end and note MPG
WAX
Make same trip again also filling at start and end
report difference if any in MPG.

We use Mequiar's Marine and RV Cleaner Wax all over and Space Protectant 303 on the decals that are more in the sun to protect them from further fading. For all the decals that have been polished, no cracking.
