WDH Question

We upgraded from our original TT, a 20' Keystone Hideout to a 26' Salem TBUD last year and have decided to upgrade our WDH. I currently have the original round bar WDH with friction sway control bar.

Am currently looking at various 4 point sway control types, but I want to be sure I looking at correct WDH bars.

Gross weight of RV: 7800 lbs
7800 x .13 = 1014 lbs

Weight in truck bed: 200 lbs
1014+200 = 1214 lbs

So I would be looking at a WDH with 1200 lb bars, correct?

Thanks!
  • Don't rule out Blue Ox SwayPro either.
Much quieter (silent), much easier to set up, superior sway control.

    Lots of bar weight choices.

But, to answer your question: yes, 1200 lb. bars for your rig.
  • Thanks, downtheroad.

Blue Ox is on the list, as well. Just trying to weight all the factors out.

Thanks for the check on the numbers.
  • I've been using the Anderson no sway hitch, and so far I like it.
With your truck and trailer you wouldn't need to move A lot of weight foward so I think it would be a good candidate.

You've got a good truck and your existing hitch might work just fine - right near the top, but should work. Have you tried towing with it? If you are not happy with the original hitch, certainly get a new one!
  • I have been towing with it for over a year and I can tell it is not quite right and have adjusted it two or three times.

We are going on a cross country trip from Florida to Yellowstone later this year and I want to have the most correct setup, which is why I am looking at upgrading.

I am looking for better sway control than just a friction bar for a 29' TT.
