We want to try RVing

So we did it. Thanks to Ken07734, I did a little searching and found a campground that had purchased 5 TT's and rent them out. They are already setup at the site, so all you have to do is show up and enjoy. And enjoy we did. I was really unsure how it was going to go over with the family, but it was a hit. The morning of day 2 my wife turned to me and said, I think we should start looking to buy our own RV. I was slightly caught off guard, but we spent the rest of the weekend talking with other people and getting their opinions on what style was best. Of course the TT crowd said there's were best, and the Class C crowd said there's were best. Regardless, we had an amazing time, and now can't wait to find our own RV. @ken - I found a place by me last night that according to their calendar online has a TT available for one of the weekends we were looking at. I have a TV and experience towing trailers of the same size, just they weren't a TT, so I am not concerned with towing it to the site myself. Thanks for your input. Fort Wilderness is one destination we were talking about for next year. I have heard it is a great place and time.

The Wife and I decided to buy an RV after spending a couple of summers in Fort Wilderness Disney. After buying the RV we dicovered that you can rent a TT from a few companies, check YouTube and you'll see a ton of them and the best part is that these companies have a ton of them for rent and then best part is that they will tow it to your site at Fort wilderness and hook everything up and when your done they come back and tear it down for you. I don;t remember the pricing but my Wife and I were very shocked at how cheap it was! Now I'm 20 G's into our new TT so were kinda stuck having fun and enjoying our summer....Good Luck!

We rented for many years before we owned. Never had any problems.
I found it a more economical approach with all things considered.
I enjoy owning one but it sure is expensive considering how often we don't use it.

@georgelesley - I understand that you treat your rigs as good as you do, and that is why I was hoping I might find a private rental so I know the rig was taken care of.

@DickB - The issues I am coming across is the rental companies that have availability for the weekends I am looking to go have ridiculous high rates for much older units. One company wants a rate per night with no mileage included on a 8 year old unit that is double the rate of another company for a 2013 with 100 miles a day included, that doesn't have availability. Another one of these companies wants a $250 prep fee. They say the fee is to fill propane, dump the tanks, and cleaning, but then in the contract they say you must return the unit with propane tanks full and grey/black tanks empty.

@lpxguy - we were looking at going to Dutch Wonderland or Hershey.

RV's are complex machines. We all love our rv and treat it like our baby. Finding anyone to rent to an inexperienced person not familiar with rv's is very unlikely.

The above advice of renting a park model (means fixed in place) rv is a good way to start. Then find a real rental if you still like it. Then come back here and ask many questions.

I think Dick_B makes a good point. Many RV parks and state park campgrounds offer park model trailers, cabins, mini-cabins, etc., to rent for those who want to experience the RV lifestyle. Much cheaper and less hassle than trying to rent an RV from someone.

I have rented from legitimate RV companies with very good results. I have heard horror stories from a co-worker who rented from a private party.

Not saying that all private rentals turn sour... but make sure everything is spelled out in case anything goes wrong. I forget the exact details of why his rental did not go well (it was a few years ago...) but I remember it enough that would make any future rentals want to be with an RV company.

Didn't quite understand the issue but renting is the way to go for a few times. The alternative is to rent a cabin at an RV Resort then walk around and talk to other campers. Most would willingly tell you all about their rig and/or preferences; good or bad.
