I've been trying the iPhone app Weather Alert. I don't have to know what county I'm in. It uses my location to determine what warnings to send. It lets me choose the distance limit for the warnings it will send me. I can also choose which dangers I want to be alerted to, and there are many different choices of those. I can choose to get only warnings, or also watches.
I haven't traveled much with it yet, but it's been prompt in alerting me to the weather. I'm the one at my office who will know if some heavy snow is coming, or hail. I'll be sitting at my desk working and I'll hear that distinct sound that tells me it's from the Weather Alert app.
