I purchased the 100 and I think it would be fine for family of 3. I also purchased a case of small cylinders in June and probably used it to cook 15 or so meals and still on my first cylinder. What I like it I'm not limited to where I put it - I can put on the Picnic table 15 feet away from the 5er and don't have to worry about the hose reaching or tripping over it. The 100 didn't fit through our side door in the basement and we had use the front door to store in the basement.
