WH gas line???

Replaceing my WH in my TC with a new one, excat same as what's in there. Came out ok except the gas line created a slight problem, but got it out. After cleaning up the area and checking all went to slip the WH in and that gas line is in the way, it's real tight to the frame and between the foam wrapping the WH and the tight fit I can't figure how to get it in. Has anybody done this and have some tips? I thought of notching the frame just a little to take the 3/8 line. Other than the gas line it's pretty straight forward. If somebody has done this on a TC and has some advice it would be appreciated.

  • Got it by moving fitting on control box just a hair. Didn't want to take a chance of breaking the factory seal but worked fine ,no leaks and went right on.All done except dropped a fitting and of course fell thru a little crack and dissapeared,so waiting for one Monday and will be able to fire up.Sure don't go in as fast as coming out....
  • Got it almost, just trying to get the threads lined up to grab, it's so close it becoming frustrating, don't want to mess up threads. All very easy except this part. Just cocking the WH one way then the other trying to line up WH fitting and camper fitting, don't want to cross thread. There I go repeating myself, must be frustrated or old or both, ahhh that's it.

Half hr. later still trying, moved every way and still can't get the threads to catch, god this is frustrating. This is how I take a break, come on here and hope for the magic answer
  • You install the heater before you run the copper line- at least push it in past the foam insulation, then snake the line out.
If it's impossible to get to the line with the heater installed, you could use a male/male flare coupling and a juck pice of tubing which you could flatten, then pull the good line through.

You really do NOT want to damage or crimp the line.
  • That's plan #2 am going to try to notch the frame just the little I need, maybe 1/2 inch if that doesn't get it I'll remove then re-install. The problem with that idea is the tight working area, and I mean tight. The frame is almost 2" so notching is not a problem. Thanks for your input.
  • Can the gas line be removed further back down the line, to take it out of the space, so you can get the unit in place first....then replace the LP line?
I'm thinking that must be how they did it when they were building the unit.....
But, I'm basing this on my MH, and don't know much about the TCs...though would think it's very similar.

    Good Luck
