What can we take in RV across the Canadian border??

We have many different lists from as many sources as to what we can take across the border from Port Angeles to Victoria, B.C.
Has anyone gone across on the ferry lately? What can you NOT take?
How long is the wait through customs? Has anyone stayed at Ocean View RV Park? What is your opinion and is there a view of the water/ocean?
Thanks for any answers you can give.

  • Crossing on the Coho Ferry is the easiest border crossing. We use it every year on our Mexico winter trips.

Ist :NO GUNS!!! Canada does not fool around with this. If you lie and are caught (and you likely will be caught) the penalties are not just a slap on the wrist.

There are not many food items not allowed, but check the link that another poster gave. Large amounts of tobacco and alcohol could cause a problem.

I'm not familiar with Ocean View RV Park.

Two waterfront parks are Oceanside RV Park and Westbay Marina and RV Park.

Both are near or at bicycle/walking paths, Westbay is closer to the city and in on the Harbour Ferry route.

Welcome to the "Independent Republic of Vancouver Island" :B.
  • They asked us about liquor, cigarettes and firearms, fruits and vegetables. Wait was longer coming back into US than going into Canada.
  • And make sure you don't forget your Passport!!! Canadian Border personnel may not ask you for it, but you will definitely be required to produce it coming back into the U.S. And what you can bring back is different than going!!! So be sure you check the "what you can bring into the U.S. web page".
  • Go to the "RVing in Canada" forum. There are "stickies" at the top which will give you what you are and aren`t allowed.
    Custom wait? different every day.
Ocean view RV park, never stayed there but a bit of a drive into touristy downtown Victoria. Location should give you great views.
  • You will get little hassle from Canadian customs. They MAYask about fruit, vegetables, meat products, and pet food. DO NOT try to bring firearms.
