All it takes is common courtesy -- good manners. When in doubt about disturbing or not disturbing a neighbor by, say, playing music, just ask! Even if the answer is not what you wanted, you're still a good guy. (On second thought, why am I writing this? Didn't we all learn it in kindergarten?)
